Colorado Rockies Agree to Terms With First-Round Selection Michael Toglia

Colorado has now agreed to terms with 25 selections from the 2019 First-Year Player Draft

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms with first baseman Michael Toglia (TOH-lee-uh), whom the Rockies selected out of UCLA with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Additionally, the Rockies announced today that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Will Ethridge (fifth round), outfielder Trevor Boone (18th round), shortstop Turner Brown (19th round), outfielder Yorvis Torrealba (20th round), right-handed pitcher Fineas Del Bonta-Smith (22nd round), right-handed pitcher Keven Pimentel (28th round) and catcher Colin Simpson (29th round). Colorado has now agreed to terms with 25 players selected in this year’s draft. Per Club policy, terms of the agreements will not be disclosed.

Toglia, 20, batted .314 (76-for-242) with 50 runs, 16 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 65 RBI, 30 walks and 65 strikeouts for UCLA this season, and was named an All-Pac-12 selection for the second consecutive season. Across three seasons with the Bruins, batted .307 (198-for-644) with 134 runs, 51 doubles, six triples, 36 home runs, 156 RBI, 111 walks and 174 strikeouts.

The Gig Harbor, Wash., native was the eighth infielder ever selected by the Rockies with their first selection in the draft (the sixth in the first round), and the first player selected as a first baseman in the first round by Colorado since Todd Helton in 1995. He was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 35th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Gig Harbor High School (Gig Harbor, Wash.), but did not sign.
