Colorado Rockies select contract of right-handed pitcher Jairo Diaz from Triple-A Albuquerque

PITTSBURGH -- The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jairo Díaz from Triple-A Albuquerque and have placed right-handed pitcher Wade Davis on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain (retroactive to May 19). Additionally, left-hander Tyler Anderson has been recalled from Triple-A and placed on the 60-day injured list with a left knee chondral defect.

Díaz, 27, will be making his first appearance on the Rockies’ Major League roster since 2017, when he pitched five innings and allowed six runs (five earned) on 12 hits with five walks and two strikeouts over four appearances with Colorado … in 16 games for Albuquerque this season, is 1-0 with six saves and has posted a 0.45 ERA (20.0 IP, 1 ER) with six walks and 22 strikeouts … was originally acquired by Colorado from Los Angeles-AL in exchange for infielder Josh Rutledge on Dec. 11, 2014 … across parts of three seasons with Los Angeles-AL (2014) and Colorado (2015, 2017) has gone 0-1 with a 3.64 ERA (29.2 IP, 12 ER), 14 walks and 28 strikeouts in 30 career relief appearances … in his Minor League career, is 23-34 with a 5.08 ERA (475.0 IP, 268 ER), 196 walks and 425 strikeouts in 257 appearances (including 41 starts) across parts of nine seasons in the Angels and Rockies organizations … the native of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, missed the entire 2016 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent during Spring Training that year … He will wear #37. Davis, 33, is being placed on the injured list for the first time since 2016 as a member of the Kansas City Royals, and for the fifth total time in his Major League career … in his second season with Colorado, has gone 1-1 with seven saves, a 2.45 ERA (14.2 IP, 4 ER), 10 walks and 18 strikeouts … has not allowed a home run this season, and his 32.2-inning streak without a home run allowed dating back to Aug. 12 of last season is the second-longest current streak in the National League … signed a three-year contract with Colorado on Dec. 29, 2017, and has gone 4-7 with 50 saves, a 3.83 ERA (80.0 IP, 34 ER), 36 walks and 96 strikeouts over 86 relief appearances since signing with the Rockies … his 43 saves in 2018 led the National League and were a new single-season franchise record.
