Rockies First Baseman TJ Rumfield Named May's National League Rookie of the Month

ANAHEIM — Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield has been named the National League Rookie of the Month for May, as announced today by Major League Baseball.

Rumfield, 26, appeared in 25 games for the Rockies during the month, slashing .310/.400/.483 with 13 runs scored, three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI. He ranked among all National League rookies in batting average (1st), on-base percentage (1st), OPS (.883, 1st), home runs (T-1st), slugging percentage (2nd), hits (27, 3rd), RBI (3rd) and total bases (42, 3rd). Defensively, the Richmond, Va., native has not committed an error in 374 total chances in 2026.

On the season, Rumfield ranks among all qualified National League rookies in batting average (.286, 1st), hits (59, 1st), total bases (94, 2nd), RBI (30, T-2nd), home runs (8, 3rd) and runs scored (24, 5th).

Rumfield was acquired by Colorado from the New York Yankees on Jan. 28, 2026, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Angel Chivilli. After winning the Abby Greer Award as the Rockies’ Spring Training Most Valuable Player, Rumfield had his contract selected on March 25 and made his first career Opening Day roster. He is the sixth Rockie in franchise history to earn Rookie of the Month honors and the first since Nolan Jones won the award for Sept./Oct. 2023.
