The Colorado Rockies announced Saturday that infielder Ryan McMahon has been named the winner of the 16th annual Abby Greer Award, presented to the Rockies Spring Training Most Valuable Player. In 22 games through March 22, McMahon has batted .434 (23-for-53) with 11 runs, eight doubles, one triple, three home runs and 11 RBI. He leads MLB in slugging percentage (.792) and total bases (42), is tied for first with 12 extra-base hits and ranks second in batting average (.434), on-base percentage (.475) and hits (23).

McMahon, 24, made his first career Opening Day roster in 2018 and batted .232 (42-for-181) with nine doubles, one triple, five home runs and 19 RBI in 91 games across three stints with the Rockies. On Aug. 10 and 11 vs. Los Angeles-NL, he became the first player in franchise history to hit a game-winning home run in the seventh inning or later in consecutive games.

The Abby Greer Award was created in honor and remembrance of Abby Greer, a very special Rockies fan from Boulder, Colo. Abby loved all sports, but especially loved baseball and the Colorado Rockies. In August of 2002, at the age of six, Abby lost her life in a tragic accident near Coors Field. In her honor, the Abby Greer Award is presented each season to the Colorado Rockies Spring Training Most Valuable Player.
