Area students will learn from team’s front office staff

February 20th, 2019

In honor of Black History Month, the Kansas City Royals are excited to announce the creation of an educational event called “Club 42.”

The purpose of Club 42 is to offer instruction and guidance to young men and women in the Kansas City area. Members of the Royals Front Office will discuss their career paths and how they learned from others in the sports business. A total of 42 teenagers, aged 13 to 18, will be selected from local organizations to meet with Royals associates. To nominate a group to participate in Club 42, please email [email protected]

In addition to this announcement, the Royals have participated in other events marking Black History Month. Last week, representatives from the Royals and the Kansas City Urban Youth Academy attended the announcement of the 100th anniversary plans set for 2020 to celebrate the founding of the Negro Leagues. President Bob Kendrick of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum made the announcement. The Club will announce details of the 2019 Royals Salute to the Negro Leagues plans soon.

Earlier this month, Royals General Manager Dayton Moore and his wife, Marianne, supported the Storling Dance Theater’s production of UNDERGROUND, a dance piece based on the history of the Underground Railroad. Participants of Moore’s C You in the Major Leagues Foundation watched the production at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts.

Also in February, Sharon Robinson, the daughter of Jackie Robinson , visited the Urban Youth Academy in honor of the Centennial Celebration of her father. Robinson also offered guidance to local students on overcoming obstacles for Major League Baseball’s Breaking Barriers essay contest.
