Royals launch special Royals-themed streetcar

Wrapped outdoor spectacular part of 2019 ‘Always Royal’ campaign

March 8th, 2019

Today, the Kansas City Royals and KC Streetcar Authority unveiled a Royals-themed wrapped streetcar ahead of the 2019 season.

“Each year we strive to put together an amazing Outdoor Spectacular to help get Kansas City ready for baseball season,” said Michael Bucek, Vice President-Marketing and Business Development. “Thanks to the KC Streetcar Authority and Sprint, we know this ‘moving billboard’ will bring a new level of engagement to our fans as we prepare for Opening Day.”

"We are thrilled to partner with the Kansas City Royals to kick off the 2019 baseball season with a branded Always Royal KC Streetcar,” said Donna Mandelbaum, communications director with the KC Streetcar Authority. “The energy in downtown Kansas City right now is electric, and we are happy to bring the KC Royals along for that ride with the Always Royal KC Streetcar."

The wrap features Whit Merrifield sliding into base on one side of the streetcar and Adalberto Mondesi sliding into base on the other side. The 2019 slogan, “Always Royal,” is featured in “lenticular” material beside the images of the players. This special material allows for motion of the word “Royal” in a two-dimensional image. The words on the Merrifield side are “Royal, Driven and Tough.” Mondesi’s side will display the words “Royal, Loyal and Moving.”

The bus stop shelter at Union Station will also feature an “Always Royal” logo.

The design was created with Walz Tetrick Advertising. Since 2013, the Royals have partnered with the agency to create billboards, murals and activations throughout the Kansas City metro area to get fans excited for baseball. The streetcar wrap will be on display at least through Opening Day, March 28, when the Royals host the Chicago White Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.
