Royals announce 2019 Salute to the Negro Leagues uniforms

February 28th, 2019

KANSAS CITY, MO -- The Kansas City Royals are excited to announce the uniforms selected for the annual Salute to the Negro Leagues game, presented by Metropolitan Community College, which will take place June 23, against the Minnesota Twins.

The uniforms represent the 1942 Kansas City Monarchs and 1908 St. Paul Gophers. The Twins last wore the navy St. Paul Gopher uniform here when they played in the Salute to the Negro Leagues game in 2012 and features a collared jersey. The white and red colored Monarchs uniform was last worn in 2017 and features the iconic heart KC logo on the sleeve.

Fans are also encouraged to “Dress to the Nines” following the former tradition of going to church and then going to a baseball game in their “Sunday Best.” The first 10,000 fans will also receive a Kansas City Monarchs Short Bill cap, courtesy of Metropolitan Community College. The giveaway cap will have the same artwork as the Monarchs cap the players will be wearing. Following the game, the game-worn, autographed uniforms will be auctioned with proceeds benefitting the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.
