Royals Sign Neftalí Feliz; Designate Chris Young for Assignment

The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Neftalí Feliz to a Major League free agent contract. Feliz will be in uniform (#43) for tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:15 p.m. In a corresponding roster move, right-handed pitcher Chris Young has been designated for assignment.

The Kansas City Royals announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Neftalí Feliz to a Major League free agent contract. Feliz will be in uniform (#43) for tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:15 p.m. In a corresponding roster move, right-handed pitcher Chris Young has been designated for assignment.
Feliz, 29, was with the Milwaukee Brewers for the first 10 weeks of the season, posting a 1-5 record with eight saves and a 6.00 ERA in 29 appearances. He served as the team's closer during the first part of the year, recording saves in eight of his first nine opportunities through May 4, which included his 100th career save on April 5 vs. Colorado. Feliz was released from his contract on Monday. The 2010 American League Rookie of the Year with Texas, he has a 20-19 career record with 107 saves and a 3.43 ERA in 337 appearances at the Major League level.
Young, 38, originally signed with the Royals on March 10, 2015 and made 82 appearances, including 33 starts with Kansas City. He recorded a 2.87 ERA in four appearances (two starts) during the 2015 postseason, collecting a win in Game 1 of the World Series. He had a 7.50 ERA in 14 outings this season.
