The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have agreed to terms with three-time All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon on a four-year contract with a mutual option for the 2020 season. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
 
Gordon, 31, will remain with the only organization he's ever played for, being selected second overall in the 2005 MLB Draft. He's coming off an impressive 2015 campaign where he was selected to his third-straight All-Star Game and helped lead the Royals to the World Series crown. The nine-year Major League veteran hit .271 in 2015 with 18 doubles, 13 homers and 48 RBI in 104 games, despite missing seven weeks due to a groin injury. Among A.L. hitters with at least 300 at-bats, Gordon's .377 on-base percentage ranked sixth in the league, while he also tied for fourth in hit by pitches with 14. Prior to suffering his injury on July 8, Alex became the second player in the last 35 seasons to collect seven hits and at least six RBI in a single day, doing so in a day-night doubleheader against the Tampa Bay Rays.
He started all 16 postseason games in left field during Kansas City's run to a World Championship, batting .241 with four doubles, two homers and 10 runs scored. His one-out homer in the bottom of the ninth inning in Game #1 of the World Series off Mets' closer Jeurys Familia, sent the game to extra innings where the Royals prevailed, 5-4 in 14. Alex's four doubles last October gave him 10 over the last two postseasons, which are second-most in Royals history.
Gordon is also a four-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner, taking home the honor in each of his first four full seasons (2011-14) as an outfielder. He became the franchise's first Platinum Glove Award winner in 2014, while he was named the Royals' Les Milgram Player of the Year in 2011. Since the start of the 2011 season, Alex's 65 outfield assists are the most in the Major Leagues. He enters the 2016 season ranked seventh in in runs scored (605), in doubles (262) and homers (134) in club history, while he's collected the eighth-most hits (1,140) and ninth-most RBI (523) among Royals.
Alex and his wife, Jamie, reside in Lincoln, Neb., during the offseason with sons, Max and Sam.
