Kevin Mather has been promoted to President & Chief Executive Officer of the Seattle Mariners, the team announced today. Kevin will continue to report to John Stanton, who is the Managing Partner & Chairman of the Board. The Mariners Executive Vice Presidents and Sr. Vice Presidents will report to Mather and form the senior leadership team for the organization.
"During his 21 years with the Mariners, Kevin Mather has progressively and successfully taken on more responsibility and provided consistently positive and creative leadership to the organization," Stanton said. "In addition, throughout his 28-year career in baseball, he has worked collaboratively within Major League Baseball on important financial and strategic issues. I look forward to working with Kevin as we pursue a Mariners World Series and provide great service to our fans."
Mather joined the Mariners in July 1996 as Vice President of Finance and Administration. When the Mariners were reorganized after the 1999 season after moving from the Kingdome to Safeco Field, he was promoted to Executive Vice President, Finance and Ballpark Operations. He was named President & Chief Operating Officer on Feb. 1, 2014. Kevin has participated on a variety of MLB committees, including Commissioner Rob Manfred's Long-Term Strategic Planning Committee, the Finance & Compensation Committee, the Investment Committee, the Internal Audit Committee and the Revenue Sharing Committee. Mather began his career in baseball with the Minnesota Twins from 1989-96, where he served as Director and then Vice President of Finance.
Trevor Gooby has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Ballpark Operations. Gooby joined the Mariners as Vice President of Ballpark Operations on Oct. 4, 2016. He oversees all ballpark maintenance, operations and capital projects, as well as security, non-baseball events, game day staff, grounds keeping and the team's sustainability operations. Trevor was previously the Pittsburgh Pirates Sr. Director of Operations in Florida and the Dominican Republic, after originally being hired by Pittsburgh in 2004 to oversee the team's spring training operations in Bradenton, Florida. He began his career with the LA Dodgers, spending seven years as the GM of the Vero Beach Dodgers while overseeing baseball operations at Dodgertown.
Kevin Martinez has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Marketing & Communications. In his new role he will continue to oversee the Mariners marketing and promotions activities, including branding, advertising, social media, digital content creation, research, in-park entertainment, fan experience and special events and will also direct the club's communication departments, including broadcasting, public information and baseball information. Martinez, who has served as the club's Vice President of Marketing since Dec., 2001, was originally hired as the club's Promotions Manager in 1990. He was promoted to Director of Promotions in 1993. He was the Boston Celtics Director of Promotions and Special Events from 1994-1996 before returning to the Mariners in 1996 as Director of Marketing.
Frances Traisman has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Sales. In her new role, Traisman will continue to oversee business development and revenue generation for the Mariners through tickets sales, including suite and premium sales, season and group tickets, customer retention and engagement and analytics. She will also add direction of the Mariners Corporate Business department, including sponsorship and radio sales. Traisman has served as the Vice President of Sales since Dec. 2007. She originally joined the Mariners in 1996 as a Sales Account Executive, was promoted to Director of Ticket Sales Administration in 2002 and Senior Director of Sales in 2004.
Randy Adamack has been promoted to Senior Vice President & Special Advisor to the Chairman and CEO. He will report directly to John Stanton and Kevin Mather and work on special projects, scheduling and a focus on the history of the franchise. Randy has been with the Mariners for 40 of their 41 seasons. He was promoted to Senior Vice President of Communications in January, 2013 after serving as VP of Communications since Sept. of 1990. A winner of the Robert O. Fishel Award for Public Relations Excellence, Adamack joined the team in 1978 as Director of Public Relations. He was promoted to Director of Marketing in 1983 and to Senior Director of Communications in 1987.
Gooby, Martinez, Traisman & Adamack join a senior leadership team which includes Executive Vice Presidents Jerry Dipoto (Executive Vice President & General Manager - Baseball Operations), Tim Kornegay (Executive Vice President - Chief Financial Officer) and Fred Rivera (Executive Vice President, General Counsel - Legal & Governmental Affairs).
In addition to the changes above, Kornegay and Rivera take on new responsibilities. Kornegay will now also oversee the Mariners Information Services department. Rivera will now also oversee the Mariners Human Resources and Community Relations departments.
