2019 Silver Slugger Award winners announced

November 8th, 2019

CHICAGO (Nov. 7, 2019) Louisville Slugger®, the Official Bat of Major League Baseball®, is proud to announce the winners of the 2019 Silver Slugger™ Awards. The awards were presented tonight in a special hour-long telecast exclusively aired on MLB Network®. The Silver Slugger Award is the top offensive award in Major League Baseball® (MLB), with the season’s best players at each position selected in a vote by MLB coaches and managers in their respective leagues.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout picked up his 7th Silver Slugger Award, while eight other players were awarded their first ever. Atlanta sat atop the Silver Slugger board, with three Braves taking home the award. Youth also seemed to be a trend among the league’s best hitters, as 14 of the 18 winners are under the age of 30.

Earning his 7th award, Trout had what many analysts say was his best year yet. The Angels centerfielder launched 45 home runs, drove in 104 RBIs, and batted .291 with a 1.083 OPS in an injury-shortened 134 games. He also scored 110 runs and had 27 doubles.

Milwaukee’s Christian Yelich, Minnesota’s Nelson Cruz, plus Boston’s Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts all took home their third Silver Slugger Award. Colorado’s Trevor Story, Washington’s Anthony Rendon, Philadelphia’s J.T. Realmuto, and Houston’s George Springer won for the second time, along with Zack Greinke, who National League managers and coaches voted as the best-hitting pitcher, despite his July trade to the American League Astros.

First-time Silver Slugger Award winners in the National League include Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman, Ozzie Albies, and Ronald Acuña, Jr., plus the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger. Cleveland’s Carlos Santana, New York’s DJ LeMahieu, Houston’s Alex Bregman, and Minnesota’s Mitch Garver joined them as first-time winners from the American League.

Each of the 18 winning players will take home a three-foot-tall, beautifully crafted Silver Slugger Award from Louisville Slugger in honor of their achievements. Each trophy bears a custom engraving of the recipient’s name, along with the names of the other Silver Slugger winners in that player’s league.
