RHP Tayler Scott claimed off waivers by Orioles

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 39 players

MILWAUKEE, WI. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today that RHP Tayler Scott has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, is now at 39 players.

Scott, 27, was optioned to AAA Tacoma on June 23. He was selected by Seattle on June 7 and made his Major League debut June 8 at Los Angeles-AL, working 2.2 innings. With his debut, he became the first South African native to ever pitch in the Majors. In all, he appeared in 5 games with Seattle (2 GS) and was 0-0, 9.39 (8 ER, 7.2 IP) with 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. Scott was 3-2 with 1 save and a 5.88 ERA (22 ER, 33.2 IP) with 44 strikeouts and 19 walks in 19 relief appearances with AAA Tacoma this season. Since May 3, he is 2-1 with 1 save and a 1.83 ERA (4 ER, 19.2 IP) with 28 strikeouts and 7 walks in 11 games with the Rainiers.

Scott was signed by the Mariners as a minor league free agent on Nov. 27, 2018. The native of Johannesburg, South Africa, was originally selected by Chicago-NL in the 5th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft. After being released by the Cubs on March 29, 2016, he spent time with Sioux City of the Independent American Association. He signed with the Brewers on July 4, 2016. On July 31, 2017, he was acquired by Texas from Milwaukee in exchange for Jeremy Jeffress (rhp). In parts of 9 minor league seasons with the Cubs (2011-15), Brewers (2016-17), Rangers (2017-18) and Mariners (2019-c), he is 40-36 with 9 saves and a 3.91 ERA (256 ER, 589.1 IP) with 432 strikeouts and 260 walks in 234 appearances (66 starts).
