Texas Rangers activate 2B Rougned Odor and recall RHPs Wei-Chieh Huang and Ariel Jurado

LHP Taylor Hearn placed on 10-day IL; LHP Jeffrey Springs and INF Patrick Wisdom optioned to Nashville

Seattle, WA -- The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves:

--2B Rougned Odor (#12) recalled from injury rehab assignment and activated from 10-day injured list

--RHP Ariel Jurado (#57) recalled from Triple-A Nashville

--RHP Wei-Chieh Huang (#68) recalled from Double-A Frisco

--LHP Taylor Hearn placed on 10-day injured list with left elbow tightness

--LHP Jeffrey Springs and INF Patrick Wisdom optioned to Triple-A Nashville

Odor was placed on the 10-day IL on April 13, retroactive to April 11, with a right knee sprain. He played on rehab assignment for Nashville on Wednesday and Thursday, going 2-for-7 with a double, home run, and 2 RBI in 2 games at second base. He is batting .167 with 2 RBI in 12 games for the Rangers this season.

Jurado has gone 3-0 with a 3.57 ERA (9 ER/22.2 IP) in 4 games/starts for Triple-A Nashville this season, posting a 1.368 WHIP figure with 8.7 strikeouts per 9 innings. He ranks among Pacific Coast League leaders in wins (T1st) and innings (T8th), and has posted 22 strikeouts against just 2 walks. Jurado has allowed 2-or-fewer runs in 3 of his 4 starts this season, including his last outing on Tuesday against San Antonio (W, 6.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R-ER, 1 BB, 7 SO, 0 HR, 104 pitches/72 strikes).

Jurado was 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA (5 ER/6.0 IP) in 3 games/one start for the Rangers this spring before he was optioned to Nashville on March 20. He went 5-5 with a 5.93 ERA (36 ER/54.2 IP) over 12 games/8 starts with the Rangers in 2018, his first major league action.

Huang was recalled by Texas on April 23 and made his Major League debut that night at Oakland (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R-1 ER) before optioned back to Frisco the following day. He became the 15th native of Taiwan to ever appear in a Major League game, the first Rangers’ player. Huang is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 6 games/1 start for Frisco in 2019 (9.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R-ER, 2 BB, 14 SO, 2 HR). He has held opponents to a .200 batting average with a WHIP of .093.

Hearn, who lost to the Mariners in his Major League debut on Thursday as the starter (0.1, 3 H, 5 R-4 ER, 4 BB), complained of elbow tightness following the game. He returned to Texas this afternoon and will undergo a further examination on Saturday. Springs is 2-0, 5.25 in 9 relief appearances with Texas this season. Wisdom, who was recalled from Nashville on April 7, is batting .154 with one RBI in 9 games with Texas.

With today’s move, the Rangers Major League roster remains at 40 players.
