CHICAGO – Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson has been named American League Player of the Month for March/April, his first career monthly honor.

Anderson is the first White Sox player to earn AL Player of the Month honors since teammate José Abreu won the award in April and July 2014. Anderson also is the first White Sox middle infielder ever to earn an AL monthly honor.

Anderson, 25, hit .375 (36-96) with five doubles, six home runs, 18 RBI, 21 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a 1.009 OPS over 23 games during March/April. He ranked among the major-league leaders in stolen bases (1st), average (2nd), slugging percentage (9th, .615) and OPS (10th), and among the AL leaders in three-hit games (1st, 5), hits (6th) and runs scored (T6th). Anderson recorded nine multihit efforts, including two four-hit games, and hit safely in 20 of his 23 contests.

Anderson’s .375 mark was the second-highest in the majors behind the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger (.431). He batted .480 (24-50) with three doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI and a 1.340 OPS in 12 games at Guaranteed Rate Field during April, the highest home average in March/April in franchise history, and the highest by a White Sox player during the months since Paul Konerko (.383) in 2012.

He was the only player in baseball to hit five-plus home runs and steal 10 or more bases. Anderson did not go more than one game during March/April without recording at least one hit, and was hitting .402 as late as April 26. His 10 steals were the second-most by a Sox player in March/April behind Kenny Lofton’s 13 in 2002, and his 21 runs scored tied for the seventh-most in club history.

Anderson originally was selected by the White Sox in the first round (17th overall) of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss.
