Twins and Clear announce Target Field partnership

Innovative, biometric identity platform to provide expedited ballpark access for fans

March 20th, 2019

The Minnesota Twins announced today they are bringing industry-leading, technological innovation from CLEAR, the secure identity company using biometrics to build a frictionless and secure world, to Target Field beginning on Opening Day, March 28 vs. Cleveland. Twins fans who have a CLEAR membership – or who sign up for free at Target Field – can gain expedited entry to the ballpark at Gate 34 through a dedicated CLEAR lane. The Twins are the first Twin Cities professional sports franchise to partner with CLEAR.

With CLEAR, which also has a presence at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, your eyes, face or fingers are your ID, ticket, credit card and more at 40+ airports, arenas, and stadiums across the country. Twins fans who enter Target Field through CLEAR’s dedicated lane will enjoy predictable, quick access to the ballpark. All fans entering the park still need to have their bags screened prior to entry.

“The Minnesota Twins are thrilled to introduce CLEAR’s game-changing technology to the Target Field experience,” Twins President and CEO Dave St. Peter said. “We are confident our fans will find tremendous value in utilizing the CLEAR system to enter the ballpark and eventually for ticketing and concessions.”

CLEAR’s sports network includes 17 partners spanning Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Basketball Association (NBA), and 14 of the top arenas and stadiums in the U.S. Other clubs, in partnership with MLB, that have installed CLEAR at their home ballpark include the Atlanta Braves (SunTrust Park), Colorado Rockies (Coors Field), Detroit Tigers (Comerica Park), New York Mets (Citi Field), New York Yankees (Yankee Stadium), Oakland Athletics (Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum), San Francisco Giants (ORACLE Park), and Seattle Mariners (T-Mobile Park).

Potential future experiences powered by CLEAR at Target Field include biometric ticketing, which would enable fans to enter the ballpark with the tap of a finger, instead of presenting a paper or mobile ticket, and Biometric Payments & Age Validation, which enables fans to buy food and drinks, and simultaneously prove that they are of legal age for alcohol purchases -- with a single touch. Additional gate locations may be added over time.

“CLEAR is focused on enhancing the fan experience and enabling venues, leagues, and teams to provide fans with a safer, more enjoyable experience overall,” said CLEAR’s Head of Sports Ed O’Brien. “We’re excited to partner with the Twins and look forward to making the Target Field experience frictionless and wallet-free so fans can focus on what they came to see.”

The Twins begin their 2019 campaign Thursday, March 28 with an Opening Day contest against the Cleveland Indians. Season, group, Twins Pass and single-game tickets for Opening Day and the 2019 season at Target Field are available via the MLB Ballpark App, at, by calling 612-33-TWINS (612-338-9467) or 800-33-TWINS (800-338-9467), or in-person at the Target Field Ticket Office.
