The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher John Curtiss from Triple-A Rochester. To make room on the 40-man and 25-man rosters the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Tim Melville for release or assignment.
Curtiss, 24, has split the season between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester combining to go 2-0 with 19 saves, a 1.28 ERA (49.1 IP, 7 ER), 22 walks and 68 strikeouts. Curtiss was promoted to Rochester June 23 and made 18 appearances for the Red Wings, posting a 1.85 ERA (24.1 IP, 5 ER) with 10 walks and 33 strikeouts while converting six of seven save opportunities. Curtiss will join the Twins in Chicago for Wednesday night's game against the White Sox and will wear number 27.
Melville made one start for the Twins, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 3.1 innings in the first game of Monday's doubleheader at Chicago.
