Vladimir Guerrero elected to National Baseball Hall of Fame

The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday, that former Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has been elected to the 2018 Hall of Fame Class. Guerrero secured 392 votes (92.9%) from the BBWAA. He will be inducted on July 29 in Cooperstown, N.Y. alongside Trevor Hoffman, Jim Thome, Chipper Jones, Alan Trammell and Jack Morris during the 2018 Hall of Fame Weekend.

ANAHEIM, CA - The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday, that former Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero has been elected to the 2018 Hall of Fame Class. Guerrero secured 392 votes (92.9%) from the BBWAA. He will be inducted on July 29 in Cooperstown, N.Y. alongside Trevor Hoffman, Jim Thome, Chipper Jones, Alan Trammell and Jack Morris during the 2018 Hall of Fame Weekend.
Guerrero, 42, played six seasons with the Angels (2004-09) and batted .319 (1034/3237) with 194 doubles, 173 home runs and 616 RBI in 846 games. His .319 batting average as an Angel is the highest mark in franchise history (min. 250 PA). In Angels history, he also ranks sixth all-time in home runs and RBI, eighth in total bases (1767), ninth in doubles and is one of 11 players to record 1000 hits in an Angels uniform. He was named the 2004 American League Most Valuable Player award after batting .337, 39 home runs and 126 RBI with a league leading 124 runs scored and a franchise record 366 total bases.
A native of Nizao, Dominican Republic, Guerrero becomes the 11th former Angels player to be selected to Cooperstown, joining: Hoyt Wilhlem, Frank Robinson, Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Reggie Jackson, Don Sutton, Dave Winfield, Bert Blyleven, Eddie Murray, and Rickey Henderson.
Guerrero originally signed with the Montreal Expos as an international free agent in 1993 and made his Major League debut with the Expos on September 19, 1996. In 16 total Major League seasons, he batted .318 (2590/8155) with 449 home runs and 1496 RBI across 2147 games for the Expos (1996-2003), Angels (2004-09), Rangers (2010) and Orioles (2011). A nine-time All-Star, Guerrero also earned eight Silver Slugger Awards and was the only player in A.L. to bat at least .300 with 25 home runs each season from 2004-08.
