The Chicago White Sox have acquired outfielder Charlie Tilson from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for left-handed pitcher Zach Duke.
 
Tilson, 23, is hitting .282 (99-351) with 16 doubles, eight triples, four home runs, 34 RBI, 53 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and a .345 on-base percentage over 100 games with Class AAA Memphis this season. His eight triples are tied for the third-most in the Pacific Coast League. Tilson is hitting .380 (38-100) vs. left-handers in 2016.
 
"Charlie is a left-handed hitting outfielder whose speed and defensive ability enable him to do a number of things well to help his team win ball games," said Rick Hahn, White Sox senior vice president/general manager. "We have liked him as a player since the Cardinals selected him out of New Trier in the second round in 2011."
 
The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Tilson spent the entire 2015 season with Class AA Springfield and was named a Texas League All-Star after hitting .295 (159-539) with 20 doubles, nine triples, four homers, 32 RBI, 85 runs scored, 46 stolen bases and a .351 on-base percentage. He led the TL in stolen bases, hits, triples and at-bats, and led Cardinals' farmhands in runs scored and hits.
 
Tilson, a native of Wilmette, Illinois and graduate of New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, was named to the Florida State League All-Star team in 2014, and was rated by Baseball America as the Fastest Baserunner in the Cardinals organization in 2013 and the Best Defensive Outfielder in 2012.
 
Tilson is a career .293 hitter (538-1,836) with 59 doubles, 33 triples, 19 home runs, 154 RBI, 265 runs scored, 89 stolen bases and a .346 on-base percentage in 471 games over five seasons (2011-13, '14-16) in the St. Louis minor-league system. He originally was selected by the Cardinals in the second round (79th overall) of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft.
 
Duke, 33, went 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA (11 ER/37.2 IP), one save, 20 holds and 42 strikeouts over 53 relief appearances this season, his second with the White Sox.
