The Chicago White Sox have claimed left-handed pitcher Josh Osich off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles and have placed right-hander Michael Kopech on the 60-day disabled list.

Osich, 30, began the spring with San Francisco before being designated for assignment on February 12. He was claimed off waivers by Baltimore on February 19 and appeared in two Grapefruit League games with the Orioles before again being designated for assignment on March 8.

Osich, 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, spent most of the 2018 season with Class AAA Sacramento in the San Francisco organization, posting a 4.96 ERA (25 ER/45.1 IP) with 42 strikeouts over 37 games (two starts). He also made 12 appearances with the Giants, recording an 8.25 ERA (11 ER/12.0 IP).

Osich has gone 6-5 with a 5.01 ERA (67 ER/120.1 IP) and 105 strikeouts in 160 games over parts of four major-league seasons (2015-18) with the Giants. He has limited left-handers to a .228 (53-232) average, including a .156 (12-77) mark in 2016 when San Francisco reached the National League playoffs.

He originally was selected by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State.

Kopech, 22, will miss the entire 2019 season while recovering from successful Tommy John surgery on his right elbow performed on September 18, 2018.
