The Chicago White Sox have named former major-league infielder Chris Getz as the organization's director of player development. Getz, 33, replaces Nick Capra, who was named Chicago's third base coach on October 14 after five seasons in his position.
 
Getz spent the last two seasons as a baseball operations assistant/player development with the Kansas City Royals after being named to the position on January 5, 2015. In his role, he assisted in minor-league operations and player personnel decisions.
  
"I'm excited about the opportunity to help teach and develop young talent in the organization where my professional career began," said Getz. "I was drafted twice, worked through the minor leagues, and reached the major leagues with the White Sox. Through this journey, I was able to gain an understanding of the individuals within this organization, who I respect greatly. The director of player development is an important role, and the health of the minor-league system is vital for major-league success. I look forward to putting my all into making the White Sox a strong and winning organization."

Getz played seven seasons in the major leagues with the White Sox (2008-09), Royals (2010-13) and Toronto (2014), batting .250 (352-1,409) with 176 runs scored and 89 stolen bases over 459 games. He hit .261 (98-375) with 18 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 31 RBI, 49 runs scored and 25 steals over 107 games with the Sox as a rookie in 2009.
 
Getz, a native of Grosse Pointe, Mich., originally was selected by the Sox in the fourth round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Michigan.
