White Sox place Carlos Rodon on injured list, reinstate Lucas Giolito

Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Boston, the Chicago White Sox placed left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodón on the 10-day injured list with left elbow inflammation and reinstated right-hander Lucas Giolito from the injured list. Giolito is scheduled to start tonight’s game vs. the Red Sox.

Giolito, 24, is 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA (11 ER/18.2 IP), .221 opponents average (15-68) and 23 strikeouts over four starts this season. He held Kansas City hitless over 2.2 IP in his last start on April 17 in Chicago before departing with a strained left hamstring.     

Rodón, 26, is 3-2 with a 5.19 ERA (20 ER/34.2 IP) and 46 strikeouts over seven starts in 2019. He ranks among the American League leaders in strikeouts per 9.0 IP (3rd, 11.94) and strikeouts (6th). He received a no decision in Game 1 of yesterday’s doubleheader vs. Baltimore, allowing three earned runs over 3.2 IP.
