White Sox make three roster moves

CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, the Chicago White Sox reinstated left-handed pitcher Jace Fry from the 10-day injured list, placed catcher Welington Castillo on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 17) with a strained left oblique and purchased the contract of catcher Zack Collins from Class AAA Charlotte.

Fry, 25 was placed on the injured list on June 10 (retro to June 8) with left shoulder soreness. He has gone 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA (15 ER/23.1 IP), eight holds and 27 strikeouts over 28 appearances this season.

Collins, 24, is batting .250/.374/.482 (41-164) with nine home runs, 39 RBI, 33 runs scored and 36 walks over 50 games this season, including 31 starts at catcher and nine at first base. He is tied for fifth in the International League in walks.

Collins, who bats left-handed, entered the season rated by MLB.com as the No. 12 prospect in the White Sox organization and No. 9 catching prospect in baseball, and by _Baseball America_ as possessing the Best Strike-Zone Discipline in the Sox system.

Collins, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, was selected by the White Sox in the first round (10th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami. He is a career .234/.378/.434 (255-1,088) hitter with 60 doubles, 49 home runs, 178 RBI, 186 runs scored and 257 walks in 324 games over four minor-league seasons. Collins has thrown out 32.4 percent (97-299) of attempted basestealers.

Collins was named to the Southern League All-Star Team with Class AA Birmingham in 2018 when he led the league with 101 walks and ranked second with a .382 on-base percentage. A native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., he will wear uniform No. 38.

Castillo, 32, suffered his injury during Sunday’s game vs. the Yankees. He is batting .196 (21-107) with five home runs and 15 RBI over 34 games this season, his second with the White Sox.
