The New York Yankees today announced that they acquired minor league left-handed pitcher JP Sears and minor league right-handed pitcher Juan Then from Seattle in exchange for right-handed pitcher Nick Rumbelow.
Sears, 21, was drafted by Seattle in the 11th round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft. In his lone minor league season, he went 1-2 with a 0.65 ERA and three saves (27.2IP, 13H, 2ER, 12BB, 51K, 0HR) over 17 relief appearances with Single-A Everett and Single-A Clinton, averaging 16.6K/9.0IP with a 0.90 WHIP.
Then, 17, was originally signed by Seattle as a non-drafted free agent. In his lone season of minor league baseball, he went 2-2 with a 2.64 ERA (61.1IP, 50H, 18ER, 15BB, 56K, 3HR) in 13 starts with the 2017 Dominican Summer League Mariners.
Rumbelow, 26, was originally drafted by the Yankees in the seventh round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. In five minor league seasons, he went 14-8 with a 2.73 ERA and 29 saves (175.0IP, 127H, 53ER, 47BB, 203K, 7HR) in 126 relief appearances. He also made 17 Major League appearances in the 2015 season (all in relief), going 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA (15.2IP, 16H, 7ER, 5BB, 15K, 2HR).
