Yankees Acquire RHP Keynan Middleton

The New York Yankees today announced that they have acquired RHP Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league RHP Juan Carela.

Middleton, 29, has gone 2-2 with two saves and a 3.96 ERA (36.1IP, 33H, 17R/16ER, 16BB, 47K, 7HR) in 39 relief appearances this season. Over seven Major League seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2017-20), Seattle Mariners (2021), Arizona Diamondbacks (2022) and Chicago White Sox (2023), he has gone 10-8 with 15 saves and a 4.00 ERA (180.0IP, 169H, 88R/80ER, 78BB, 182K, 28HR) in 193 Major League games (one start). The Portland, Ore., native was originally selected by the Angels in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. 

Carela, 21, has gone 2-4 with a 3.67 ERA (83.1IP, 65H, 40R/34ER, 32BB, 109K, 7HR) in 17 games (16 starts) with High-A Hudson Valley this season. The right-handed pitcher has gone 12-20 with a 4.79 ERA (264.2IP, 220H, 173R/141ER, 136BB, 319K, 20HR) in 64 games (56 starts) over parts of four minor league seasons in the Yankees organization (2019, '21-23). The Samaná, D.R., native was originally signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2018.
