Here's the Twins' player pool for their Spring Breakout game

The third annual Spring Breakout is coming up fast, and the Twins figure to field an intriguing roster this year. With four prospects in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100, plus a compelling arsenal of young arms, the home game against Phillies prospects on March 19 figures to be worth watching. Here’s a look at what you need to know about this year’s Twins Spring Breakout game.

What is Spring Breakout?

In 2026, MLB Spring Breakout will again be a four-day event showcasing baseball’s future -- the current stars of Minor League Baseball – in 16 exhibition games played between teams composed of each MLB organization’s top prospects. The third edition will be held from March 19-22 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training.

In 2027, Spring Breakout will be expanded into a single-elimination tournament format, with champions being crowned in both the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues.

When is the Twins’ game?

Twins prospects face Phillies prospects at Lee Health Sports Complex on Thursday, March 19, at 12:05 p.m. CT. If you happen to be in the area, you could do a doubleheader and hop over to the big club’s 5:05 p.m. CT game against the Red Sox across town at JetBlue Park.

Notable position players

Unfortunately, Walker Jenkins, MLB’s No. 14 prospect, suffered a left hamstring injury recently and his status for the event is in doubt. But that still leaves plenty of noteworthy players in the pool for Minnesota, including shortstop Kaelen Culpepper (No. 52 overall), catcher Eduardo Tait (No. 65) and outfielder Emmanuel Rodriguez (No. 74). Rodriguez has already been turning heads with an early-spring power outburst.

Notable pitchers

It’s harder to project who might pitch, since a pitcher has to be on turn in order to be able to go in the game. But among the candidates are lefty Connor Prielipp (Twins' No. 5 prospect), lefty Dasan Hill (No. 6), lefty Kendry Rojas (No. 10), righty Andrew Morris (No. 13) and recent draftees right-handers Riley Quick (No. 11) and James Ellwanger (No. 16).

Roster details

To accommodate the player movement involved with the World Baseball Classic and to create greater flexibility for clubs and farm directors, Spring Breakout rosters are being constructed in two phases in 2026. Clubs initially submit a preliminary 40-man player pool on Thursday, March 5, which will then be pared down to the official 23-27 man rosters on March 18.

The preliminary 40-man player pools consist of the team’s Top 30 prospects, as determined by MLB Pipeline, minus any injured players, players on a Dominican Summer League roster or players on the 40-man roster who have elected not to participate. The pools also include 10 or more additional unranked prospects submitted by the club to replace the above ranked prospects who are not participating.
