G.R.I.T. Coaching Clinics

The Cleveland Guardians’ G.R.I.T. Coaching Certification is a new standard for youth baseball and softball coaches across Northeast Ohio. Built around the same principles used inside our clubhouse, G.R.I.T. helps local coaches lead with purpose, protect players, and create a better experience on every field.

G.R.I.T. stands for Growth Mindset, Routines, Individualized Plans, and a Team-first approach – the core philosophy that guides coaches throughout the Guardians organization. Now, we’re opening that playbook to community coaches who want to invest in their players and their own development.

The G.R.I.T. Coaching Certification was designed to elevate coaching quality and the overall youth sports experience in our region. Through clinics, safety training, and professional development resources, coaches gain practical tools they can use immediately with their teams.

• Coaches who participate in G.R.I.T. will:
  • Strengthen fundamental coaching skills and on-field teaching.
  • Learn best practices to increase player safety and well-being.
  • Build more positive, player-centered team environments.
  • Connect with a network of baseball, softball, and adaptive coaches across Northeast Ohio.

More than 100 local coaches have already taken part in Guardians-supported development programs, signaling an appetite for structured, high-quality coaching education in our community.

The inaugural G.R.I.T. cohort is open to youth baseball, softball, and adaptive coaches across Northeast Ohio. Community volunteers, recreation league coaches, school coaches, and Guardians program partners are all encouraged to take part. If you coach young athletes and care about their growth on and off the field, G.R.I.T. is built for you.

To earn full G.R.I.T. Coaching Certification status and unlock all program benefits, coaches complete a blend of clinics, volunteer service, and safety-focused training.

• Coaches must complete all of the following:
  • Attend one Positive Coaching Alliance Clinic.
  • Attend one USA Baseball Community Coach Clinic.
  • Volunteer at one Guardians Community Clinic.
• Coaches then complete at least one of the following approved safety or professional development options:
  • American Heart Association – CPR & First Aid Certification
  • USA Baseball SafeSport Certification
  • Active ABCA or NFCA membership
  • Other approved professional development training

G.R.I.T. is about better coaching and stronger teams, but it also comes with meaningful recognition and one-of-a-kind Guardians experiences.

• Coaches who complete their G.R.I.T. Certification will receive:
  • Autographed G.R.I.T. Certificate of Completion to display with pride at home, school, or their facility.
  • VIP batting practice experience at Progressive Field, including a meet and greet opportunity.
  • Pregame on-field ceremony recognition celebrating their impact as youth coaches.
  • Recognition on the G.R.I.T. website and on the Guardians’ @CLEinspires social media channels.
