Guardians-Tigers PPD on May 27; twin bill July 4

May 27th, 2022

DETROIT -- The second game of the four-game weekend series between the Guardians and Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park was postponed prior to first pitch due to inclement weather in the area.

It will be made up on July 4 in Detroit as part of a split doubleheader, with first pitch for Game 1 set for 1:10 p.m. ET and Game 2 slated to start at 6:40 p.m. Shane Bieber, who was originally slated to start on Friday, will now start Saturday’s 4:10 p.m. game. Triston McKenzie will also move back one day and start Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. series finale.

Bieber entered Friday with a 1-3 record and 3.55 ERA and is coming off one of his best starts of the season, a 10-strikeout gem during which he allowed three runs (two earned) over seven innings. McKenzie, who’s 3-3 with a 2.70 ERA, has four quality starts in four tries in May, most recently season-best back-to-back seven-inning affairs. He’s 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in May.

The Tigers will send rookie Alex Faedo to the mound against Bieber Saturday. Elvin Rodriguez, with only one career start under his belt, will pitch Sunday.

The Guardians have lost three consecutive games and nine of 12. They’re looking to turn things around and end the current road trip -- a seven-day swing through Houston and Detroit -- on a high note.
