Mets pitchers, catchers to report Feb. 12

NEW YORK -- Near-freezing temperatures throughout the Northeast may tell a different story, but the official start of Spring Training is less than eight weeks away.
Mets pitchers and catchers must report to First Data Field by Feb. 12, the team announced Wednesday, kicking off a six-week residency in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Key dates for the Mets include:
• Feb. 12: Pitchers and catchers report
• Feb. 14: First workout
• Feb. 16: Position players report
• Feb. 18: First full-squad workout
The Mets' Grapefruit League schedule begins Feb. 23 at First Data Field against the Braves, the first game of a 32-game exhibition slate. Opening Day is scheduled for March 28 in Washington.
