Citi Field was transformed into a hockey venue complete with taxi cabs and highway signs beyond the rink to capture a New York feel, as the New York Rangers defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2, in overtime during the 2018 NHL Winter Classic on Monday.
J.T Miller scored a power-play goal with 2:17 remaining in the extra period to keep New York (21-13-5) undefeated in outdoor games. Paul Carey and Michael Grabner scored the other two goals for the Rangers, in the first period. Henrik Lundqvist, meanwhile, made 31 saves.

Buffalo's scoring came on goals from Rasmus Ristolainen and Sam Reinhart. Robin Lehner made 39 saves for the Sabres (10-20-9), who played in the inaugural Winter Classic in 2008.
Despite a temperature of 20 degrees at Citi Field, a crowd of 41,821 fans was on hand to see the 10th edition of the Winter Classic. It marked the sixth time an MLB stadium has hosted the event, following Wrigley Field (2009), Fenway Park ('10), Citizens Bank Park ('12), Nationals Park ('15) and Busch Stadium ('17).
