The Mets have their very own GKR imitator

October 1st, 2021

might be a Major League relief pitcher at the moment, but it's not hard to envision him in the broadcast booth one of these days.

May showed off his announcing skills by doing an imitation of an actual SNY telecast of a Mets game, calling a walk-off victory using the words of play-by-play man Gary Cohen, while boasting some versatility by also playing the roles of color analysts Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.

The call May recited was a walk-off single by Michael Conforto on Aug. 31 to beat the Marlins, and the rendition got rave reviews from the booth.

"That was great!" exclaimed Darling after hearing May's call.

"Nicely done," said Hernandez.

"I love how he nailed Keith with the glasses and the eyebrows," Cohen said, referencing May’s uncanny ability to imitate Keith looking down over the rims of his glasses. "That was fantastic."

May has a good thing going with his current gig, but after that? Cohen seems to have a feeling May might come for his job.

"He can do whatever he wants when his baseball career is over," Cohen said. "This is just one choice for him."
