The Nationals have lost eight of Scherzer’s 10 starts this season, including a 2-0 setback in his matchup with Jacob deGrom on Opening Day. Scherzer struck out 12 in 7 2/3 innings but was bested by deGrom's six scoreless with 10 K's.

deGrom allowed seven runs (six earned) last Friday vs. the Marlins, the most runs he has given up in a start since September 2017. The reigning NL Cy Young Award winner has been frustrated with his inconsistency, particularly his pitch location.

Strasburg has been locked in since April 16, striking out 62 batters while issuing nine walks and holding hitters to a .189 batting average. He is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA in a pair of starts against New York this year.

Matz's pitch count was up in his return from the IL, which forced him out after 3 2/3 innings last Saturday in Miami. Most encouraging was he didn't feel discomfort while throwing his curve, a pitch that possibly irritates the nerve in his forearm.
