All-Star celebs talk tacos, walk-up music in Q&A

July 17th, 2022

The MGM Rewards All-Star Celebrity Softball Game brought out some of today’s brightest stars, from Bad Bunny to Quavo. Ahead of the game, MLB.com asked several celebrities -- Action Bronson, Bryan Cranston, The Kid Mero, Chloe Kim, Simu Liu and Joel McHale -- for their opinions on a several Los Angeles and baseball-themed questions.

Answers have been edited for clarity.

What’s your go-to taco truck order?

Bronson: I like sesos, lengua and one regular one: asada.

Cranston: I usually would get a breakfast burrito, something juicy, filling.

Kim: I always get carne asada tacos with a side of rice and beans.

Mero: Carnitas, bro. Carnitas all day. I’m a carnitas guy.

McHale: It’s always pork. The hottest it can possibly get, the fresh jalapeños.

Liu: Definitely, No. 1, al pastor tacos, at least two or three. Carne asada. Sometimes I’ll do a quesadilla de camarón. I love a taco de pescado. I go hard on the taco trucks. I definitely order way too much all the time.

What would your walk-up song be?

Bronson: I wouldn’t use my own stuff. I chose two. Let’s see which one they pick. “Yo Voy” [Zion & Lennox] featuring Daddy Yankee. I also put "Cemetery Gates" by Pantera.

Cranston: Silence.

Kim: Something by Nicki Minaj, for sure. Either Nicki or Megan Thee Stallion.

McHale: "The Imperial March" from Star Wars.

Mero: "Sistema Del Patio" by Tokischa and Treinticiete. That’s what’s poppin’. I want to represent the motherland so that’s what I’m walking up to.

Liu: Right now, it’s definitely my boy Rich Brian. He has the song “Run It” that was on the "Shang-Chi" soundtrack. So, I’m a little bit biased I guess, but that’s the ultimate walk-up song.

If you could have one elite skill as a baseball player, what would it be?

Bronson: I’d be a specialty hitter. I’d be a big ... DH. I’d be the big bopper, but I could hit for average also. And clutch. I want all the attributes of a great hitter.

Cranston: I’m always marveling at defense. There's guys who can mash home runs, so many, but when you see sparkling defense … I dunno. Range, and arm, the whole thing. I think it would be that.

Kim: Speed! I want to be a fast runner.

McHale: Those laser eyes that Homelander has from (The Amazon Prime series) "The Boys?" Yeah, that’d be great.

Mero: Power, power, power. The home run is like a slam dunk. It’s either that, or some nasty breaking pitch.

What would your pitch be? That Mariano Rivera cutter, man. Unhittable. One pitch, and that’s all he needed. Nobody could figure him out. Except that one time, but we’re not going to talk about that.

Liu: Power, for sure. I want to go for a home run.
