has been a fixture in the Major Leagues since his 2009 debut, and he’s not going anywhere just yet.

The 39-year-old outfielder/designated hitter has made the Rangers’ Opening Day roster, general manager Chris Young told reporters on Monday.

McCutchen, who signed a Minor League deal with Texas on March 6, will play his 18th Major League season and his first with the Rangers. He spent the past three seasons with the Pirates, where he began his career, earned five All-Star selections and was named the 2013 National League MVP.

McCutchen was traded to the Giants before the 2018 season, then dealt to the Yankees at that year’s Trade Deadline. He played for the Phillies for three seasons (2019-21) and spent 2022 with the Brewers before returning to Pittsburgh.

In 2025 for the Pirates, McCutchen batted .239 with 13 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .700 OPS. He excelled during his limited playing time in Spring Training with the Rangers, hitting 8-for-18 (.444) with three doubles, a home run and a 1.361 OPS.

McCutchen, who beat out Mark Canha to earn a spot on Texas’ roster, will offer a right-handed complement to Joc Pederson at designated hitter, where he spent the vast majority of his time in 2025. He made just seven outfield appearances last season, six of which came in right field.
