MILWAUKEE -- The Guardians' injury concerns grew on Tuesday, when additional testing revealed a non-displaced fracture in Angel Martínez's left foot.
Manager Stephen Vogt said Martínez was still experiencing discomfort on Monday, prompting the club to conduct further imaging. Martínez was placed on the 10-day injured list and outfielder Petey Halpin was recalled from Triple-A Columbus.
"He walked in Monday kind of knowing that we'd probably get some testing done if he wasn't feeling better, and he wasn't," Vogt said. "MRI and CT scans both revealed a fracture in the foot."
Vogt said Martínez is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks.
Martínez exited Saturday's game after fouling a pitch off his foot in the first inning. The switch-hitting outfielder entered Tuesday’s series opener against Milwaukee leading Cleveland with 11 home runs this season.
The Guardians received somewhat better news regarding Chase DeLauter, who also exited Saturday's game after crashing into the right-field wall.
Vogt said imaging revealed bone bruising and a small fracture in his right rib cage, but DeLauter remains day to day, and he could potentially continue playing through it.
"Definitely something, to [pain] tolerance, he could play through," Vogt said. "We just have to weigh out day to day how it's feeling."
The injured list remains a possibility for DeLauter, according to Vogt.
The latest updates come after Cleveland already lost José Ramírez to a fractured hamate bone over the weekend.
"No one has three of your hitters getting hurt in one game, let alone in a four-inning span," Vogt said. "Just the versatility and resilience and willingness for all of our guys to step up -- that's what we have to continue to do."
