Will Harper participate in another hometown Derby?

PHILADELPHIA -- Maybe is being coy.

He knows Phillies fans want to see him participate in the Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park on July 13. Harper has hinted that he might, if he makes the NL All-Star team.

He will learn on Saturday if he has made it. It would be stunning if he does not. Harper is batting .274 with 20 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .906 OPS, which is tied for the 10th-best in MLB.

But what about the Derby? Harper won it in his final season with the Nationals at Nationals Park in 2018. He beat current teammate and former Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber in the finals.

It would be fun if both participated as teammates in a couple weeks.

“I'm still not sure,” Harper said. “I want to be healthy, obviously. I want to play every game in the first half. I haven’t done that for a long time. So, we’ll see. The last time I did it, I won. I said I'd never do it again. So, we'll see how I'm feeling.

“I don't really have anybody to throw to me as well. My dad hasn't thrown in a long time, so I don't really want to do it without him. It’s more for me and him, but we'll see. Obviously, I know the fans want me to do it, so I'll take that into account, but we'll see how much pump, I guess, I have behind me going out there and doing it.”
