ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Mets on Tuesday placed Christian Scott on the 15-day injured list due to left knee inflammation, ending his season. In a corresponding move, they activated closer Devin Williams from the IL.
Scott, 27, last pitched against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing three runs over 4 2/3 innings. His season -- his first since 2024 Tommy John surgery -- ends with a 4-5 record and 3.85 ERA in 23 starts. Scott stands a strong chance of being in the Mets’ Opening Day rotation next season.
Williams, 32, has been on the IL since early August due to right shoulder inflammation. The Mets plan to script his appearances down the stretch, meaning he won’t necessarily close games if his throw day occurs when the team doesn’t face a save situation. The team only plans to use him two times or so over the season’s final six games.
Williams, who owns a 4.66 ERA, is under contract for two more seasons.
