Lauer makes second start with Arizona Rookie Padres

Right-handed starter Zech Lemond and two relievers combined on an eight-hitter Friday night, and third baseman Josh VanMeter hit his 12th home run to lead Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore to a 6-3 win over Visalia at Lake Elsinore.
Lemond, 23, the Padres' third-round pick in the 2014 Draft, allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts over seven innings to improve to 3-3 and lower his earned run average to 5.37 for the Storm, who are 13-9 in the second half of the California and 45-47 on the season.
Right-hander Gerardo Reyes (0.00 ERA) pitched a perfect ninth. Right-hander Martires Arias (4.60) allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout in the ninth.
VanMeter was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and his 12th homer to raise his batting average to .260. Second baseman Luis Urias (.327) had a double in three at-bats with two walks and two runs scored. Left fielder Edwin Moreno (.239) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The promotion of left-handed reliever and infielder-outfielder from Triple-A El Paso to the Padres Friday led to two players -- infielder and right-handed reliever Adam Cimber -- being promoted from Double-A San Antonio to the Chihuahuas.

TRIPLE-A EL PASO (53-39): Nashville 11, CHIHUAHUAS 4 - 1B Lindsey (.276) was 3-for-4 with a RBI in his return to El Paso. 3B (.315) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. SS (.315) had a double in three at-bats for two RBIs and a run scored. LF (.280) had a double in two at-bats with two walks and a run scored. Starting RHP Carlos Pimental (5.81 ERA) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. RHP (8.18) allowed two runs on three hits with a strikeout in an inning. LHP (4-1, 3.98) allowed three runs on four hits in an inning to take the loss. RHP Michael Dimock (3.65) allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in an inning. Cimber (19.64) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in an inning.
DOUBLE-A SAN ANTONIO (9-12, 31-60) - Midland 5, MISSIONS 2: DH Gabriel Quintana (.249) hit his 10th homer in four at-bats. RF Nick Schulz (.286) was 2-for-4. LF Nick Torres (.284) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a steal. SS (.287) was 1-for-4 with a RBI and two stolen bases. Starting RHP Kyle Lloyd (3-4, 3.94 ERA) was charged with three runs on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. RHP was charged with a blown save, allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings. RHP (2.68) allowed a run on two hits with two strikeouts in an inning.
CLASS A FORT WAYNE (9-13, 45-47) - Quad Cities 2, TIN CAPS 1: LF Kodie Tidwell (.242) was 2-for-4. Starting LHP Jerry Keel (5-9, 2.63 ERA) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. RHP Blake Rogers (4.15) allowed a hit with two strikeouts in three scoreless innings. LHP Nathan Foriest (4.15) walked the bases loaded in one-third of an inning but did not allow a run. RHP Louis Distacio (4.29) pitched two-thirds of a perfect inning.
SHORT SEASON CLASS A TRI-CITY (15-13) - Eugene 9, DUST DEVILS 7: RF Luis Asuncion (.228) had a double and two RBIs in four at-bats. CF Buddy Reed (.200) was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Starting RHP Angel Mejia (4.33) allowed four runs on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts in three innings. RHP Chasen Ford (5.40) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Mark Zimmerman (0-2, 1.23) allowed two unearned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. RHP David Bednar (0.00) allowed a hit with three strikeouts in 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
ARIZONA ROOKIE PADRES (10-10) - Reds 10, PADRES 8: 3B Denzell Gowdy (.239) had a double and a homer with a RBI and two runs scored. SS Hudson Potts (.312) had a double and triple in three at-bats with a RBI and two runs scored. SS (329) was 1-for-2 with a RBI. CF Dayon Olmo (.254) was 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. 2B Ariel Ortega (.231) was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored. LHP Eric Lauer, the Padres' third, first-round pick in the June draft, made his second professional start and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. RHP Jonathan Guzman (7.82) allowed a run on a walk and no hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Henry Henry (3.55) allowed a hit with two walks and two strikeouts in three scoreless innings. RHP Emmanuel Clase (40.50) allowed three runs on a hit and two walks with a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning. RHP Kyle Gauthier (0-2, 4.32) allowed three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning to suffer the loss. RHP Juan Arias struck out two in a perfect inning.
DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE PADRES (13-23) - Reds 6-5, Padres 0-2: 2B Kelvin Alarcon (.253) was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk as the Padres got swept in a doubleheader. RHP Anderson Polanco (2-3, 4.24 ERA) allowed five runs (three earned) on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts over four innings in the opener to suffer the loss. LHP Adolfo Hernandez (2.12) allowed a run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts over the final three innings. RHP Angel Acevedo (2.28) started the second, seven-inning game and allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in five innings. RHP Adonis Santana (1-5, 8.78) gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits with two strikeouts in an inning to take the loss.
