The Rangers should get an offensive boost on Friday when shortstop Corey Seager is expected to return from the injured list ahead of their series opener vs. the Guardians. The team has not confirmed the move.
Seager last played on May 13 and was placed on the IL with lower back inflammation a few days later. Before the injury, the five-time All-Star was in the midst of a tough start to the season at the plate. In 42 games, Seager was hitting .179 with seven homers and a .638 OPS.
The back issue marks the latest IL stint during Seager's time with the Rangers. He missed 60 games last season and has not played more than 123 games in any of the past three seasons. An appendectomy sidelined him for much of 2025. But when healthy, he's remained a productive offensive player.
In his first four seasons in Texas, Seager compiled an .872 OPS and was worth an average of 5.6 bWAR per season. His best season has been 2023, when he hit .327 with 33 homers and a 1.013 OPS in just 119 games.
Seager has played two rehab games with Double-A Frisco, going 1-for-5.
The Rangers could get even more good news soon when outfielder Wyatt Langford make his return from the IL, which could also come as soon as Friday. Langford has been out since late April with a right flexor strain. He was hitting .238 with a .636 OPS at the time of the injury, but last season clubbed 22 homers and was worth 5.5 bWAR.
In four rehab games split between Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, Langford has gone 2-for-10 with a homer.
