CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Phillies right-hander is out of the hospital and feeling OK following a cardiac event on Sunday morning at BayCare Ballpark.

Robert, 31, collapsed on the pitcher’s mound next to the half-field following his first bullpen session since October, when he suffered a cardiac event during another bullpen session at Carpenter Complex.

Robert had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator placed near his chest over the winter. The ICD triggered as he was coming off the mound on Sunday.

Robert boarded an ambulance under his own power and was taken to the hospital.

“I was standing right behind him,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said. “It was scary because he went down, he started to get back up again and he went back down.”

Perhaps 15 teammates were watching Robert because it was his first bullpen session of the spring. They applauded his milestone moment before he collapsed.

“It was very scary, but he’s fine,” Thomson said.

Robert had a 4.15 ERA in 15 appearances last season with the Phillies.
