Peralta returns from shoulder injury

D-backs outfielder activated from IL after being sidelined since July 3

PHOENIX -- D-backs outfielder was activated from the injured list before Wednesday afternoon’s 5-2 victory over the Orioles at Chase Field, and this time he swears he’s 100 percent ready.

Peralta had been on the IL since July 4 with inflammation in the AC joint of his right shoulder. It was the same injury that had him on the shelf from May 22 to June 3. He entered Wednesday's game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning and grounded out, moving baserunners over to second and third.

“I think the first time I made the decision to come [back] too early,” Peralta said. “I just want to play and I told them, 'I’m ready, I’m ready.' I just wanted to help the team and I learned from that mistake.”

This time, Peralta extended his rehab and then spent two games with the organization’s Rookie-level team in the Arizona League.

“I think it’s the right time to come back,” he said. “The important thing is, my shoulder feels good and that’s all that matters. If it feels good, I can play the way I want to.”

Peralta’s return comes a week before the July 31 Trade Deadline. His name has come up in rumors, given that he will be a free agent after 2020.

Peralta, though, said he is focused on helping the D-backs grab a postseason spot.

“I think every game is important for us,” Peralta said. “We just have to keep battling, keep grinding and keep trying to win as many games as we can. I’m here, so I’m going to do my best to help the team win games and see what’s going to happen.”
