As the Arizona Fall League heads into the final two weeks of play, MLB.com spoke with Diamondbacks farm director Chris Slivka to get a rundown on each of Arizona's participants.
More on the Arizona Fall League:
Here's a look at how each is faring, along with a comment from Slivka:
Outfielder Jack Hurley
A third-round pick out of Virginia Tech in the 2023 MLB Draft, Hurley spent most of the '25 season with Double-A Amarillo. He has an .899 OPS in nine games in the AFL. Hurley, 23, was placed on the developmental list during the season as he made some swing changes.
"Jack's continuing to work on adjustments to the swing they started midseason, and they're really starting to pay off," Slivka said. "We're seeing it in the performance."
Third baseman Jansel Luis
Luis, 20, spent most of last season with High-A Hillsboro, where he slashed .304/.342/.422. He has a .612 OPS in 16 games in the AFL.
"He's been holding his own out here -- really young for the Fall League, but he's doing well," Slivka said. "He's been playing on the left side of the infield. We're trying to get him more reps at third and short after he played a lot of second base this season.
“From an offensive standpoint, he's really working on controlling the strike zone and getting in some more at-bats, and he's been doing a pretty solid job with that thus far."
Catcher Kenny Castillo
Coming off a hamate injury that cut his regular season short, Castillo, 21, has appeared in seven games in the AFL and has a .774 OPS.
"Kenny's making up some at-bats from the time he lost this year due to injury," Slivka said. "He's been playing some good defense behind the plate, and he's getting into a rhythm at the at the plate offensively, too. We're happy with what we're seeing there, and he's continuing to build on some of the success he had later in the year before his season was cut short."
Right-hander David Hagaman
Acquired from the Rangers at the Trade Deadline in the Merrill Kelly deal, the 22-year-old Hagaman – the D-backs' No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline -- has made three starts in the AFL and has a 4.26 ERA.
"A really exciting young arm," Slivka said. "I feel like he's getting some good publicity here in the Fall League. Really good fastball, well-above-average extension, some carry, and then he's got three solid secondary pitches behind that -- the changeup, slider and curveball.
"He's continuing to fine-tune the fastball command and establish control on that pitch, and then work on putting hitters away with the above-average secondary offerings."
Right-hander Drey Jameson
Jameson, 28, found an unorthodox cure for his elbow issues, and he made six appearances in the Fall League and posted a 6.35 ERA before shutting things down for a normal offseason.
"We just wanted to make sure we got some outings under his belt to see that he was healthy and he felt good," Slivka said. "Ball was coming out really well, started to get a good feel for the slider, something that eluded him a little bit earlier in the season. He's healthy, so we're looking forward to him contributing next year for us."
Right-hander Kyle Amendt
Amendt's regular season was shortened to 27 appearances due to a right shoulder injury. The 25-year-old has made six appearances in the Fall League and posted a 9.00 ERA.
"For the most part, he's been pitching pretty well, just establishing control the strike zone and attacking with his stuff," Slivka said. "He's just working on fine-tuning the command and consistency of his offerings."
Right-hander Yordin Chalas
The Diamondbacks used Chalas – their No. 21 prospect -- as a starter in High-A Hillsboro last year as a way of getting him some innings and work on his stuff in between-start bullpen sessions. The 21-year-old was moved to the bullpen toward the end of the season. Chalas has not allowed a run in five AFL appearances.
"His stuff is ticking up," Slivka said. "He's mid to upper 90s, showing flashes of a quality slider and splitter. He's shown some fastball command that we're excited to see.”
Right-hander Lorenzo Encarnacion
Encarnacion was not scheduled to be in the Fall League, but he took the place of right-hander Jacob Steinmetz, who had some lower back tightness. The 23-year-old Encarnacion has made only one appearance, pitching a scoreless inning.
"He missed some of the season this year with some knee issues, but he has a pretty extensive arsenal," Slivka said. "He's got three fastball variations, and he's got three secondary pitches, so he has a pretty good shaping ability. We're continuing to teach him how to use that stuff and how to pitch with those offerings."
