MIAMI – Right-hander Eury Pérez went 6 1/3 strong innings and Owen Caissie drove in two runs in the Marlins’ 2-1 win over the Mets on Friday night at loanDepot park.
Pérez allowed just one run on two hits – both by Juan Soto – with five strikeouts and no walks, marking the first time this season he hadn’t issued a free pass. His lone blemish came on Soto’s two-out, first-inning homer on a center-cut 99.8 mph four-seamer, which became the fastest pitch taken deep in the Majors in 2026.
The gem snapped a five-game skid for Pérez, who had given up 19 earned runs and 41 baserunners in 26 1/3 innings for a 6.49 ERA during that span.
Pérez got help from both his defense and offense to be in line for the victory. Center fielder Jakob Marsee robbed Carson Benge of an extra-base hit in the first and sixth.
Batters six and seven in the order, Esteury Ruiz and Caissie, manufactured a pair of runs that proved to be the difference.
With one out in the second, Ruiz doubled. He stole third and scored on Caissie’s game-tying groundout to first.
Ruiz improved to 8-for-8 on stolen-base attempts this season, with five steals of third.
The Marlins took a 2-1 lead in the fourth thanks to a two-out rally. Ruiz dropped southpaw Sean Manaea’s pitch just fair down the right-field corner for a triple. The left-handed-hitting Caissie followed with a single.
