NEW YORK -- It was a bittersweet day for the Mets on Wednesday night at Citi Field.
First, they snapped their 12-game losing streak by beating the Twins, 3-2.
With the score tied at 2 in the bottom of the eighth inning and right-hander Justin Topa on the mound, the Mets had runners on first and second with two outs when Mark Vientos hit a blooper that dropped in front of right fielder Matt Wallner for a base hit, which allowed Brett Baty to score the go-head run.
Reliever Luke Weaver got the win, tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings while working around a two-out single in the ninth.
But there was some bad news to go with the victory: On the night when the Mets took Juan Soto off the injured list, they may have lost shortstop Francisco Lindor to what the team announced was left calf tightness.
The injury occurred in the fourth inning. After Francisco Alvarez doubled to right-center field against Twins left-hander Connor Prielipp, Lindor struggled running around the bases, but he managed to score New York’s second run of the game. Lindor gingerly got off the ground, went into the dugout and did not return for the top of the fifth.
Lindor was replaced in the lineup by Baty, who played third base, while Bo Bichette made the switch from third to shortstop, the position he has played most of his career.
Lindor went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored in the game.
