NEW YORK -- A day after welcoming Juan Soto back to their lineup, the Mets officially said a temporary goodbye to Francisco Lindor.
Lindor landed on the 10-day injured list Thursday after straining his left calf running the bases the previous night in a 3-2 win over the Twins that snapped a 12-game losing streak. The Mets recalled infielder Ronny Mauricio to replace him.
The Mets don't have a clear timetable yet on Lindor's injury, but they expect him to miss significant time. It's more serious than the calf issue that just cost Soto 15 games.
The timing is poor for Lindor, who had shaken off a slow start to go 7-for-17 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and three runs scored in the five games leading up to his injury. Overall this season, Lindor was hitting .226/.314/.355. With Soto back in the lineup, Lindor batted cleanup on Wednesday for the first time since 2023.
This is just the third IL stint of Lindor’s career and his first since 2021, when an oblique strain sidelined him for more than five weeks. Calf injuries can take weeks to months to heal depending on their severity; in Soto’s case, he needed 2 1/2 weeks to get back on the field.
In Lindor’s absence, the Mets are planning to keep Bo Bichette at third and give Mauricio, who was batting .293 with a .987 OPS at Triple-A Syracuse, an extended run at shortstop. A former top prospect, Mauricio had a three-homer game at Syracuse on Tuesday and contributed a walk-off single for the Mets during a brief Major League call-up earlier in April.
The Mets also officially called up Thursday's starting pitcher Christian Scott from Syracuse and optioned reliever Austin Warren back to Triple-A.
