PHILADELPHIA -- The Diamondbacks will likely place catcher Gabriel Moreno on the 10-day injured list on Sunday after an MRI exam taken Saturday showed a "muscular issue" in his lower back, according to manager Torey Lovullo.
Moreno exited Friday night’s 5-4 victory over the Phillies after the top of the third inning with left lower back tightness and was sent for an MRI on Saturday morning.
"He's got a lower back issue that's not a bone or the typical back situation," Lovullo said after Saturday’s 4-3 loss at Citizens Bank Park. "It's more muscular in nature. So I'll have an update as far as what the plan is, but it's looking like an IL stint for sure."
Moreno said he felt the discomfort in his back after he threw out Justin Crawford attempting to steal second base to end the second inning Friday night.
"I was really sad," Moreno said of his reaction when he got the MRI results. "I don't want to go to the IL, but [they] think I can come back quick if I go on now."
The hope is that with rest, Moreno will be able to return without an extended IL stint.
