PHILADELPHIA – Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno exited Friday night’s 5-4 victory over the Phillies after the top of the third inning with left lower back tightness.
Manager Torey Lovullo indicated after the game that Moreno was day to day.
Moreno grounded out to third base in the first inning and caught the first two innings of the game, but as the Diamondbacks took the field for the bottom of the third, Lovullo came out onto the field to speak with home plate umpire Brock Ballou.
After a short delay, backup catcher James McCann popped out of the dugout and took a few warmup tosses before going behind the plate.
Moreno, who delivered a key pinch-hit double in Thursday night’s 7-1 win against the Mets, is a key part of the Arizona lineup, hitting in the fourth spot in the early part of the season.
