WASHINGTON – The Nationals and Blue Jays game was a family affair for the Varland brothers.

Gus and participated in a memorable lineup card exchange prior to Tuesday’s game at Nationals Park.

Louis pitched a scoreless inning for Toronto in the series opener on Monday. The following afternoon, Gus was called up from Triple-A Rochester to rejoin Washington’s bullpen.

The siblings from Minnesota reunited at home plate for the pregame ceremony.

Louis, 28, earned his first All-Star selection this season with a 1.02 ERA and 22 saves. Gus, 29, made the Nationals' Opening Day roster and has earned six saves.

This is another notable day at the park for the duo. Back in 2022, the brothers faced off as starters in the Minor Leagues in a Double-A game between the Tulsa Drillers and Wichita Wind Surge.
