One Mets legend to ... future Mets legend? Prospect Reimer homers as Gooden joins broadcast

The timing was perfect: a Mets legend in the booth as one of the team's top prospects -- perhaps a future legend himself -- stepped to the plate.

Then, all it took was one pitch, and knew what to do with it.

With Mets Hall of Famer visiting the broadcast booth on Friday as the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies faced the Hartford Yard Goats at Mirabito Stadium, Reimer connected on the first pitch he saw for a game-tying homer.

It was the second dinger of the season for Reimer, a third baseman and the Mets' No. 5 prospect per MLB Pipeline.

Gooden can relate to that trip around the bases. Though he made his name on the mound -- he was a four-time All-Star with the Mets and the 1985 NL Cy Young winner -- Gooden hit eight dingers during his 15-year MLB career. Seven of those came with the Mets, making him the team's record holder for homers by a pitcher.

With Gooden watching Friday, it was almost as if Reimer was serving notice that the list of Mets legends is about to grow.
