The Giants continued to beef up their bullpen depth by signing right-hander to a one-year Major League contract on Tuesday.

Foley, 30, logged a 3.16 ERA over 210 relief appearances for the Tigers from 2021-24, though he didn’t pitch in the Majors in 2025 after undergoing surgery to repair the anterior capsule in his right shoulder in May. He became a free agent after he was designated for assignment by Detroit in November -- though he didn’t have to wait long to find a new opportunity with the Giants, who signed him to a deal worth $2 million, according to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.

Foley will open the 2026 season on the injured list, but the Giants expect him to be back on the mound by the middle of next year. The Manhasset, N.Y., native recorded 28 saves for the Tigers in his last full season in 2024, so he could be an option to close games for San Francisco once he’s healthy.

After dealing Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval at the Trade Deadline and losing Randy Rodriguez to Tommy John surgery, the Giants knew they’d have to focus on restocking their bullpen this offseason. In addition to taking a flyer on Foley, the Giants signed left-hander Sam Hentges to a one-year, $1.4 million deal and claimed fellow southpaw Reiver Sanmartin off waivers from the Reds.

The trio of newcomers should join an incumbent mix of Giants relievers that includes Ryan Walker, Erik Miller, José Buttó, Joel Peguero and Spencer Bivens.
