DENVER -- Since he returned a right hamstring strain that put him on the 10-day injured list in mid-April, Reds second baseman Jonathan India enjoyed a good stretch at the plate. But India’s progress was interrupted on Sunday when he went back on the 10-day IL with a recurrence of hamstring tightness.

Infielder Alejo Lopez was activated from the taxi squad after he was recalled from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day, while India was being examined by a doctor. The IL stint is retroactive to Saturday, when India was scratched from the starting lineup vs. the Rockies.

India, the 2021 National League Rookie of the Year Award winner, is batting .295/.311/.341 in 11 games and was hitting well -- 6-for-15 in four games -- after he was activated on April 26. But he wasn’t moving around too well while running Friday.

“He hasn’t been able to kind of break through being able to go full speed,” Reds manager David Bell said.

Fraley also goes on injured list
In another move, outfielder Jake Fraley went on the 10-day IL with right knee inflammation. Cincinnati recalled outfielder TJ Friedl from Louisville to take Fraley’s spot.

Fraley has been trying to play through a sore knee for a couple of weeks, but it was causing him more trouble during Saturday’s game vs. the Rockies, when he started in right field.

“Just trying to put a stop to that and not keep aggravating it,” Bell said. “I think it just got to a point last night where he didn’t feel like he should keep playing through it. He feels it mostly running and also feels it hitting.”

Fraley was batting .116 with one homer in 15 games in 2022. Friedl was 0-for-7 during his earlier big league stint this season.

This season, injuries have killed the Reds, as they are saddled with the worst record in the Major Leagues. The latest two injuries gave them 13 players on the injured list.
